APA Style

APA (American Psychological Association) style is used in many social science fields such as Psychology, Sociology, Economics, and Fashion Design and Retailing, along with Nursing and Business.

Up until this point, you’ve probably never been asked to ever write in APA and you may have never even heard of it. Most high school students are told that MLA formatting is what should be used in their papers. Now, moving into college writing, you will learn other formatting styles including the ones most commonly used in your major. Those of you who decide to study one of the fields listed above will often find your professors asking for papers in APA. Most of the obvious differences occur in the page setup and how you will cite your work.

This section of The Writing Guide will take you through the APA style step-by-step to help you construct the best paper you are capable of. Click on the corresponding links to get to areas where you have the most questions. Be sure to refer to the numerous examples located throughout this section.
