SEMESTER SYLLABUS TIPS FOR STUDENTS

The Semester Syllabus is designed to help you plan your studies and manage your time. When completed, the Semester Syllabus will provide you a single page to track course work and deadlines for all of your classes. Quizzes, exams, papers and projects should be noted for each class in which you are enrolled.

  • Review the course syllabus closely.

  • Note the grading breakdown provided in the syllabus.  For example:

    3 exams (20% each)                             60%
    1 paper                                                   20%
    1 group project                                      15%
    Attendance                                               5%

    TOTAL                                                 100%

  • Record each assignment and due date on the Semester Syllabus.

  • Repeat the exercise for each course.

NOTE:  If you are uncertain of a deadline, please ask your course instructor to provide you with an indication of the timeframe the assignment will be due.  Deadlines may change throughout the semester; indicate these deadline changes on your Semester Syllabus.
