The first two events in February are:
What Can Indigenous Knowledge Teach Us about Climate Justice and Sustainability?
February 9, 2022, 4:30 p.m., Hybrid - McCarthy Center Forum and available virtually.
How can teachers and students integrate indigenous knowledge into our classrooms and communities as we journey towards climate justice? Join us to discuss this topic with Dr. Robin Wall Kimmerer, a mother, scientist, decorated professor, and enrolled member of the Citizen Potawatomi Nation.
Artist Hernease Davis: Self-Care Through the Artistic Process
February 22, 2022, 5:30 p.m., In-Person - McCarthy Center Forum
Hernease Davis is a photo-based artist using photograms, cyanotypes, and craft to emphasize self-care through the artistic process. She has been shaping her practice into a psychological space where she may safely confront emotional scars, respond to visceral impulses, and grow in acceptance of the imperfections inherent in the material process. The exhibition opening starts in the Mazmanian Gallery at 4:30 p.m. and then the lecture will be conducted in the Forum at 5:30 p.m.

Paula Yoo Author Talk: Asian American Movement
Wednesday, January 26, at 1:30 p.m.
The Education Department, Center for Inclusive Excellence, and Council on Diversity and Inclusion invite you to join us for a Zoom event with award-winning author, Paula Yoo, author of the first-year common reading selection for the Education department, a 2021 YA narrative non-fiction book titled “From a Whisper to a Rallying Cry: The Killing of Vincent Chin and the Trial that Galvanized the Asian American Movement.”
Yoo will discuss how anti-Asian sentiments are not new, and how a singular tragic event in the 1980s -- the killing of Vincent Chin, a Chinese American man, and lenient sentencing of his killers -- galvanized the Asian American movement. Vincent Chin’s story highlights a pivotal moment for Asian Americans against hatred and racism and how his story is relevant in today’s sociopolitical landscape.

Notable Accomplishments
-On Thursday, January 20th, Professor Robert Johnson, Jr. of the Communication, Media and Performance department participated in a virtual screening and discussion hosted by Media Burn Archive on his film series Other People’s Footage, along with co-director/co-producer Diane E. Carson and intellectual property lawyer Dale Nelson of Califf, Donaldson and Perez (LA). The two films feature interviews with 19 noted documentarians including Haskell Wexler, Skip Blumberg, and Yvonne Welbon along with several legal experts who examine the three questions crucial to determining fair use exemptions for fiction and non-fiction film and media makers. The films also clarify legalities regarding parody, trademark, on-location shooting, set dressing and props."
-Dean Marc Cote has an art exhibition, 'Alas and Wonderland', going on display at Creative Collections Gift Shop & Gallery. The opening reception will be on Saturday, Feb. 5, from noon to 2 p.m. The exhibition’s images have their roots in snippets of stories culled from children's tales, myths and fables, novels from past and present and Dean Cote’s own personal experiences.
