FSU Recruiting Students, Faculty and Staff for Second Cohort of Ground Breaking Weight Loss Study

Jul 14, 2015

Framingham State University has begun recruiting eligible students, faculty and staff for the second cohort in a groundbreaking food study being run in partnership with Boston Children’s Hospital (BCH). For those who are eligible, it’s an opportunity eat healthy, lose weight, have all your meals prepared for you, receive financial compensation, and advance science!

Funded by a $12 million grant from the Nutrition Science Initiative (NuSi), the Framingham State Food Study is investigating the question, “Is a calorie just a calorie?” and builds upon the small, but ground breaking, research of Dr. David Ludwig and Dr. Cara Ebbeling from BCH.

Participants in the first round of the study, which is taking place throughout this academic year, have lost a total of 621 pounds. The second round of the study will run during the 2015/16 Academic Year.

Participants in the study take part in a period of weight reduction, followed by randomization into three different diets: high carbohydrate, moderate-carbohydrate and low-carbohydrate to analyze the impact of energy expenditure during weight loss maintenance.

All participants are compensated for their time and delicious and nutritious meals are prepared by Sodexo Dining Services, FSU’s Food Service Provider. If your New Year’s Resolution is to lose weight and get healthy, this could be a fantastic opportunity.
