About the Dean

Dr. Susan Dargan is the Founding Dean of the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences at Framingham State University. She began her career at FSU as a faculty member in the Department of Sociology in 1987. She served as chair of the department from 2007 until 2013. During her time as a faculty member, she was the recipient of the Distinguished Faculty Award for Excellence in Teaching in 2011. She was an active member of the Massachusetts State College Association, representing faculty as chapter vice-president and chair of state-wide collective bargaining committees. She continues to play an active role in FSU’s Committee on Diversity and Inclusion and Leading for Change Consortium.

Dean Dargan received a PhD and MA in Sociology from Boston University with a specialization in race and ethnic relations and a BA in Sociology and Government from Simmons College. Outside of FSU, she has taught at Lasell College, Boston University, and Providence College. She is also a published scholar and has written on the role of faculty members and department chairs in university administration. She has served her community as an elected member and chair of the Southborough K-8 School Committee and the Northborough-Southborough Regional School Committee.
