FSU Student to be Honored as Part of
29 Who Shine!

Framingham State University senior Sarah Ferguson ’12 will be honored at the State House in Boston on May 10 as part of the 29 Who Shine celebration.

The event honors one outstanding student from each of the state’s 29 public colleges and universities. You may recognize Sarah from her recent profile in the Spring 2012 Alumni Magazine, which can be viewed online here. She is an Honors Program student majoring in Biology with a pre-professional concentration and minoring in Biochemistry.

Sarah has been on the Dean’s List throughout her four years at Framingham State and has proven to be a model student and outstanding leader outside the classroom. Sarah has excelled in the science lab, mastering complex techniques in several different areas including DNA extraction and purification, cloning, enzyme isolation, molecular modeling, ultraviolet spectrophotometry and analytical biotechnology, to name a few. During her junior year, Sarah performed an Independent Study in Cancer Biology on the topic of “Treatment for Resistant Cancers.” She is currently completing her Honors Thesis on “The Role of Medical Examiners in Today’s Society.”

Sarah is currently in the application process for Pathology Assistant programs that would begin in the Summer or Fall of 2013. These programs are accelerated two-year programs and would train her in both Anatomical and Autopsy Pathology. This keeps her forensic pathology interests at the forefront of her education but also allows her to embark on other interests outside of the hospital setting such as a part time position as an EMT or Forensic Investigator.
