The Department of Chemistry & Food Science offers dedicated, engaging faculty, small class sizes, hands-on experience with state of the art instrumentation and dedicated research space. Talented students are encouraged to participate in meaningful undergraduate research experiences either on campus with a faculty mentor or off campus as part of an NSF-REU (National Science Foundation Research Experience Undergrad) program. Our well-prepared students are welcomed in a variety of industrial internships.

Interested in a pre-professional curriculum for pre-medical, pre-dental or pre-veterinary studies? This program is offered in cooperation with the Biology Department.
CHA - This major course of study is approved by the American Chemical SOciety. Students tailor this program to their interests through the choice of electives, advanced coursework and a faculty-mentored senior research project.
CHB - The Biochemistry concentration is ideal for the student wishing to pair the study of Chemistry with biology, business, communication arts, journalism, mathematics, nutrition or secondary education.
CHG - The General Chemistry concentration is ideal for the student wishing to pair the study of Chemistry with business, computer science, earth science, mathematics or secondary education.
FOOD SCIENCE PROGRAM
The Food Science program at Framingham State University produces graduates that are highly in demand by local employers. With a strong base in chemistry, students are poise to enter careers in toxicology, biotechnology and food safety.
FST - The Food Science and Technology concentration is consistent with the recommended curricula put forth by the Institute of Food Technology.
FSA - The Applied Food Science concentration is ideal for the student wishing to combine the study of Chemistry with biology, business, communication arts, journalism, mathematics, nutrition or secondary education.
