Spring Ceremony May 19, 2013  

Master’s Degree Ceremony will commence at 9:30am

Dwight Hall Performing Arts Center

Commencement Speaker:  Dr. John Ambacher, Professor Emeritus

Please fill out the Commencement Attendance Form and return it to us in the self-addressed envelope or via email. Electronic copies can be sent to Ms. Kimberly Hardy at khardy@framingham.edu.

Rehearsal: There is no rehearsal for the Graduate Commencement.

 

COMMENCEMENT SECURITY RESTRICTIONS

The following items are prohibited:

  • Large bags, back-packs, wrapped gifts, briefcases.
  • Firearms, explosives, pepper spray, or other weapons.
  • Thermoses, coolers, or other liquid containers except in cases of medical need, as certified by a physician.
  • Artificial noisemakers, air horns, or megaphones.
  • Large signs, flags, poles, banners, or laser pointers.
  • Promotional items with commercial slogans or identifications.
  • Food or drinks.
  • Alcoholic beverages, drugs, or illegal substances.

 Handbags and purses of normal size will be allowed, but are subject to visual inspection upon entry.

 Guests may be subject to search of their person and/or possessions.

Guest Accommodations: Each graduate will be issued up to four guest tickets.  When you return you Commencement Attendance Form, please indicate whether you will need 1, 2, 3 or 4 guest tickets. Graduates do not need a ticket. Tickets will be mailed to your home.  Seating will be on a first come, first served basis.  If you or a guest requires a special accommodation, please contact Ms. Kimberly Hardy, Graduate Program Administrative Assistant, at khardy@framingham.edu.

Caps and gowns: All Students must appear in full academic regalia in order to participate in the ceremony. The cost is approximately $26.00. All orders can be placed online, and your cap and gown will be mailed to your home.  Please order your cap and gown at your earliest convenience, allowing at least two weeks prior to the ceremony for delivery.  Please note: graduate students should not order honors cords.  

To order your cap and gown visit www.mygraduationstore.com. You will need the following information to place your order:

  • School ID - 00385
  • Student ID - This is the number on your student ID. If you do not know your student ID number, call our main office at 508-626-4558.
  • Email Address

On Commencement Day, please wear your cap and gown.  Mortar boards should be worn squarely on the head (not tilting backwards) and your tassel should be on the left.   You will carry your hood, draped over your left arm, into the ceremony as you proceed in, you will be hooded by your Program Coordinator before you cross the stage to get your diploma.

Parking: Graduate and guest parking will be in the Normal Hill Parking Lot and the Parking Deck behind the library. To access the lot, take North University Way.

Check-in:  Check-in will begin at 8:30am in Dwight Hall, 2nd Floor, Athletic Center.  You must check in by 8:30am in order to participate in the ceremony.  Please arrive promptly! Students will be lined up at 9:00am for the procession. The Commencement Ceremony will begin promptly at 9:30 am.

Hooding: Graduate Program Coordinators will formally place the master's hood on each graduate before you cross the stage.

Diplomas: You will be handed a scroll on stage.  When you step down from the stage, you will be handed your diploma.

Photos: A professional photographer will take individual photos of each graduate as you cross the platform. You will then be mailed a copy of your photo with an order form.

Reception: Immediately following Commencement, there will be a reception for graduates and their guests in the McCarthy Center Forum.  We will have a special gift for each graduate.

A note about participation: Prior to graduation, you must have satisfied degree requirements and any outstanding debts to the University. Financial aid recipients must complete an exit interview. Students with Perkins Loans are notified by mail of the exit interview dates. Students with Stafford Loans and No-Interest Loans must contact Mr. Shawn Morrissey in the Financial Aid Office, McCarthy Center, 508-626-4535, to make sure all paperwork is complete.
