The English Major encourages a love of reading and an appreciation of a wide variety of writing. Students are well-prepared to apply for a master’s degree in library science because of the emphasis on critical reading, research skills, and analytic writing. Students interested in a career as a school librarian should include a children’s literature course among their English Department electives, and should also inquire about Massachusetts Teacher Certification as a Library Media Specialist or Instructional Technology Specialist.
