Universal wastes are regulated under the Code of Massachusetts Regulations, 310 CMR 30.00. Universal wastes include mercury-containing fluorescent lights, thermometers, switches, computer monitors, televisions, re-chargeable batteries, and pesticides. All universal wastes must be transported to a licensed facility where materials are recycled, re-used or disposed of properly. All materials that are considered universal waste when no longer needed or disposed of through a state-licensed facility and treated as universal waste.
