How to change your major to Food and Nutrition

First Step - Decision

The first decision you need to make before changing your major to Food and Nutrition is which concentration you want to be in.

Food and Nutrition — this concentration is appropriate for students interested in eventually becoming a registered dietitian. It includes many courses in Biology, Chemistry, and Medical Nutrition.

Nutrition and Wellness — this concentration is appropriate for students who are interested in nutrition and wellness . It includes some courses in Biology and Chemistry. An internship is required.

Students cannot transfer into the Coordinated Program in Dietetics (CPD). Entrance into the CPD is by application only.

You can view the differences in courses in the Four Year Plans for FN Majors .

Second Step - Requirements

Print out your DegreeWorks report showing your courses, grades and GPA. This report must indicate that you have met the following requirements:

Food and Nutrition Concentration

  • GPA 2.5

Applied Nutrition Concentration

At the meeting, you will be given the Registrar’s form to change your major. You will need to have the Chair of your former Department sign this form before you bring it to the Registrar.

At this meeting, you will be assigned an advisor and receive a paper copy of the FN Student Handbook.
