Members of the public got their first jaw-dropping look inside Framingham State University’s beautiful new residence hall during a recent open house event on campus. North Hall is located at the corner of State and High streets overlooking Route 9 and is the University’s first new residence hall in 38 years.
The state-of-the-art building offers four-person suites and conjoined double and single rooms with semiprivate baths. It features several spacious lounge areas, study rooms and a variety of other amenities, including contemporary furniture and a grab-and-go eatery.
“Students are going to be pumped when they move in,” said Cassie Derosier, a senior resident assistant (RA) at North Hall. “It’s a really modern building.”
Framingham State junior Ashley Cardona was among a group of students who swung by campus a few days early this semester to catch a sneak peak of the residence hall.
Cardona left impressed by what she saw. “I thought it was beautiful,” Cardona said following a tour of the 410-room building. “I love all the common rooms and study areas. And I think it’s great how it’s designed to be energy efficient.”
North Hall was designed to incorporate student feedback, including its many "green" features – such as an underground geothermal well to heat and cool the building. This makes the building 25 percent more efficient than Massachusetts standards for new construction.
Resident Director Jay Hurtubise said his staff of resident assistants has been working in overdrive to get accustomed to the new building. The RAs led guests on guided tours of the residence hall during the recent open house.
“My staff has been phenomenal,” Hurtubise said. “We’re ready for a great start to the year.”
