What is the
Peer Education Club?
The FSC Peer Educator
Club is comprised of students who act as promoters of healthy living on campus.
It is affiliated with The
Bacchus Network, an international organization which promotes student
leadership on healthy and safe lifestyle choices concerning alcohol use,
tobacco use, illegal drug use, unhealthy sexual practices, eating
disorders, and other high risk behaviors.
It has been recognized
that when it comes to personal concerns, college students are more
receptive to information received from their peers. We are looking for
students who are excited and energized about promoting healthy choices
to their peers and are actively recruiting new members.
What do Peer
Educators do?
Peer Educators provide education and outreach to their peers in a
variety of formats including:

Outreach to residence
halls
-
Planning and
coordinating national awareness campaigns on campus
-
Facilitating
information tables in the college center lobby
-
Producing and
implementing print, internet and cable TV advertising to promote
healthy choice campaigns and special events

Conducting research
on social norms and program effectiveness
Additional tasks/training include:

Completing Bacchus
Network Peer Educator eight module training
-
Attending weekly
meetings
-
Acting as a mentor
and role model to peers
-
Making referrals when
needed
-
Assisting in
recruitment and training of future peer educators
What are the

How
do I qualify as a Peer Educator? How do I apply?
-
Be a registered
Framingham State College student
-
Commit to 3-5 hours a
week to the program for at least two consecutive semesters
-
Be reliable and
responsible
-
Have a genuine desire
to educate students about making healthy choices
