Student Awards

At the end of the Spring semester the Chemistry & Food Science Department gives out a number of awards at the College of STEM's Annual Recognition and Awards Ceremony to Chemistry majors who have demonstrated academic excellence.

ACS Undergraduate Award in Organic Chemistry
This award is presented to a graduating senior majoring in either chemistry or biochemistry who has demonstrated excellence in organic chemistry based on a combination of research experience, coursework, and a desire to pursue a career in chemistry.
   
ACS Undergraduate Award in Inorganic Chemistry
This award is presented to a student who has demonstrated excellence in inorganic chemistry based on any combination of research, coursework, and/or motivation/interest/dedication, and plans to pursue a career in chemistry.
 
ACS Undergraduate Award in Physical Chemistry
This award is presented to a student who has demonstrated excellence in physical chemistry based on research, coursework, and/or dedication, and is committed to a career in chemistry research, education, or industry.

ACS Undergraduate Award in Analytical Chemistry
This award is presented to a student who has displayed an aptitude for a career in analytical chemistry. The student will receive monthly emails from the scholarly journal Analytical Chemistry with highlights from the latest edition.

POLYED Undergraduate Organic Chemistry Award
This award is presented to a sophomore or junior chemistry major for outstanding performance in the two-semester organic chemistry sequence.

AIC Student Awards for Chemistry and Biochemistry
The American Institute of Chemists Awards honor outstanding seniors majoring in chemistry and biochemistry who have demonstrated leadership ability, character, scholastic achievement, and advancement potential in the chemical professions.

CRC Press Chemistry Achievement Award
This award is presented to a freshman for outstanding performance in Principles of Chemistry and Quantitative Analysis. The student receives an award copy of the latest edition of the CRC Handbook of Chemistry and Physics.
 
Deborah Russell Memorial Award
A $100 scholarship is presented to the student who demonstrates the best academic performance in chemistry during their freshmen year. This award was established by the Class of 1927 at their 50th reunion in honor of a former professor.
