New Student Course Selection

Welcome to the Course Selection process for the Fall 2024 semester.  This is your opportunity to meet with an advisor to discuss selecting your courses, searching for ones that will fit your major and university requirements, and reviewing courses that simply spark your interests.

FIRST-YEAR STUDENTS

Incoming first-year students will meet with an advisor to discuss their major (or academic interests, if Undeclared) and other required courses. Students will plan their first schedule and complete registration.

Instructions:

Step 1- Schedule an advising appointment, starting with June 3rd, on Starfish hereA confirmation email will be sent to your FSU student email. For assistance in making an appointment, see this video

Step 2-Prepare for your appointment by reviewing the materials that are linked below, and taking appropriate placement tests, so you may have a productive appointment.

Placement Testing for writing and math (please complete before you have your advising appointment) 

  • If you are eligible to take the writing placement exam, you will see an invitation in your Framingham State email from “Instructure Canvas” letting you know that you have been invited to participate in a course called “Summer 2024 Writing Placement.” Be sure to accept that invitation and take the test.
  • If you are considering study in the sciences, computer science, accounting, economics or finance, you must take the math placement test that is currently on your Canvas site on myFramingham.  The results of the math placement test will help us place you into the appropriate math course during the advising appointment. The test is online and always available, and scores are available within 24 hours for us to use in advising you.

First Semester Recommended Courses-This page will provide you guidance as to which courses first-year students should be looking to take during the first semester.

Rams 101 First-Year SeminarThis required course is offered with many unique themes. Please review the course descriptions and select several that interest you. Your advisor will work to help you find one that fits your schedule.

TRANSFER STUDENTS

Starting in late April, incoming transfers will receive an email from their Department Chair with information about how to schedule a virtual appointment to review their transfer credits and Degree Audit, choose fall courses, and complete registration.

  • How to use Schedule Planner- This video will demonstrate how to search and register for courses using Student Schedule Planner. Your advisor will also walk you through that process.
  • Understanding your Degree Audit- This video will provide a demonstration of your online transcript, DegreeWorks.  This will be a valuable tool to help you understand requirements, how courses are applied and what you have remaining to complete as you progress through your degree requirements.
