Our Mission

Framingham State University (FSU) is a member of the American Association of State Colleges and Universities' (AASCU) American Democracy Project (ADP), and our new Civic Engagement and Service Learning Center seeks to engage the FSU community - students, faculty, staff, and administrators - to participate in activities designed to increase their civic engagement. The center is an integral part of FSU’s commitment to increase student volunteerism with local community organizations that support underrepresented and underserved populations.

FSU students engaged in service-learning courses provide community service in response to community-identified interests, gain enhanced learning through the connection between their service and their academic coursework, and increase their roles as citizens. This supports FSU's mission to provide students not only educational benefits but an understanding of what it means to be an active citizen.

One of FSU’s core values is Public Purpose and Commitment, as we strive to construct a community that is committed to public purpose, informed action, and service. In our current strategic plan, under the overarching goal of Academic Distinction and Student Success, we commit to preparing students to be ethical and engaged citizens committed to public purpose, inspired to service, and eager to place leadership roles in their communities, workplaces, and the wider world.
